The hot ticket I'm seeing this days is the Baofang radios on the FRS frequencies. Cheaper, easier to install, and way better range than a CB.
Since we aren't discussing the legalities of things...
They work. A lot of the rugged radios that I've seen look just like a rebadged Baofang...

I have helped set up OX lockers before and it takes some fine tuning adjustments to get them dialed in right. Once dialed in, it's a solid set up.
I have no experience with an E-locker.

How often is it going to be sitting with the trailer hooked up to it without the Jeep running? If the trailer has a battery that the 12 volt from the Jeep is charging, it's not going to drain the battery on your jeep that much, unless it's a really long period of time. Like Todd said, I think...

If 35's are the goal, then the first thing I would start thinking about doing is upgrading that rear axle. A D35 isn't much more than a boat anchor with any type of larger tires.
My LJ is on 35's with a D44 rear and a beefed up D30 in the front. That combo will hold up to 35s if you don't get...
