I have a 2016 JKU Rubicon and am having an intermittent issue where i get a "hotoil" warning o the dash and it will not crank. The issue comes and goes every couple of months it will do it, then quit and perform fine for a couple of months. It can be the dead of winter, sat all night and try to crank and get the warning. I've traced down all grounds and theyre fine. The harness above the draglink is fine. I've exhausted the internet looking for answers but can't find any. Some folks have had similar issues but vehicle still runs in limp mode. I was told that Jeep corrected this issue in 2013 and with hot oil warning present it will not crank. Took it to dealership twice about a year ago and of course the problem would not present while there.

I ran flash cal and got a few codes. Took to local dealer this morning with no luck. I don't have much confidence in dealership shops to begin with but today the tech's essentially assured me that i could search youtube and find the answers but their equipment wasn't finding anything! lol

Just got done at dealer. Initially problem wouldn't present itself. I insisted on letting me go back and get it to do its "trick". They didn't find anything on their initial checks. Went back and finally got the warning to come on. Tech had never seen the issue. Essentially what is happening is i am intermittently losing all communications with all the computer systems. The tech and i both believe that it is something in the ignition system itself. he'll have to chase down every connection. I'll go back tuesday and drop off. No telling what this will cost me lol!!

Hello,
I had my JKU shut down in full flex on a trail trying to outrun a July 5th lightning storm at Disney, Oklahoma. The DIC threw a HOT OIL code and permanently shut down the jeep. After lots of online digging and a 3 hour trail delay I found out my communications harness ( My name for it ) had been chopped in half by my track bar mount. For others, If your bump stops are not set up correctly there is a wiring harness near the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side that can fall under the frame and get chopped. There may be other ways to nick one of the tiny wires through the loom casing. You said that your harness is fine, have you removed the entire loom casing and inspected every tiny wire? I soldered and spliced my harness back together and have never had to look back. Lots of people have escaped the HOT OIL message with the same loom repair.

I checked everything within pinch points. Mine never shut down due to the warning. Would only throw it while trying to start jeep. Turn key back to "accessory" and back to ignition then it would start. Sometimes you would have to do the process 5-15 times it seemed. I think we finally found the issue. The keyed/keyless security system is not communicating properly at times. Dealer has ordered a security module and we'll swap that out and hopefully be done with this issue.

I know this has been a while but did this fix your issue?
I am having the exact same symptoms on my 2016 JKUR. nothing else I am finding online seems as accurate as your post. I have done every check possible and dread taking it to the dealer and have them not find anything.
TIA!
