Ask The Expert- Gauges - Mechanical or Electric?

I have to ask as there seems to be a lot of discussion about weather one should run mechanical gauges or electric gauges in places where you always want/need and very accurate reading. If we need to get specific, we can discuss Autometer gauges or simply all gauges in general.

I am curious on this too. Are there any wireless gauges for air pressure for OBA tank?

Brian, Thank you for bringing this topic up.

The modern electric gauges work a lot better then the ones from 15-20 years ago and as long as you run a quality gauge like Autometer or VDO they should be just as accurate as a mechanical. I am not a huge fan of mechanical ones anymore because they are generally harder to route and I do not want hot fluids in the cab. There will normally be some of each to get all your bases covered and the mechanicals will be a bit cheaper.

The biggest thing is to make sure that you are running a quality gauge. I am not going to trust a $10K motor to a $20 generic gauge just because it lights up a cool color.

Thanks! We run electric primaries with mechanical backups. These are going in my current project as the backups and they light up pretty. :)
