My local off-road shop wants to charge me 5 hours labor ($400) plus parts and alignment to replace my stock ball joints. Does the labor sound about right?
It's a 2014 JKU sport with 3.5" lift, 35's. has 24k miles. Same shop told me there is a little play in the Ball Joints which is why we are looking into changing them out. I have a some shake in the steering at random times and the steering feels sloppy. I am changing the tierod ends, pitman arm and ball joints seemed an appropriate next step. There is some rust on the drivetrain but not excessive. Everything else is clean underneath..... I keep it really clean, it's the OCD in me.
That quote is about right depending on the hourly rate in your area. That should be about 4 hours of labor which is about how long it will take them from start to finish.
The tool brian shows can normally be rented from an auto part store if you are wanting it do them yourself.
