Man those locals didn’t play around. You would think the state would utilize some of those lava fields as a source of income. It’s not like they can be used for much else.Mahalo! Yes, I love it here. Unfortunately, there aren't many wheeling places on Maui. There's a couple spots on the northwest part of the island, near Jaws, and on the south side; but these are mostly fishing trails and/ or rocky riverbeds. Most of the wheeling is on private lands that you must know someone (no Haoles) in order to go there. There was a small Jeep group that tried to get started, but they were quickly disbanded because they wheeled on private lands (not marked at that time) and some native Hawaiians threatened them by posting license plate numbers on Facebook and got pretty gnarly about the whole thing.
You would think, but most of the land is considered sacred regardless of how (seemingly) unuseable it may appear. Even though Hawaii was annexed over 120 years ago (and a state for 60 years), there's still a lot of animosity over the whole thing. Maybe we can take donations through MJF to buy a big chunk of land for Jeep vacations in paradise!Man those locals didn’t play around.
